Cloud seeding in China

In preparing for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, the Chinese government so badly wanted sunny skies and a dry stadium for the opening ceremony that they pulled out high-tech equipment to force rain to fall where and when they instructed.
Yeah, they can do that.
Since the opening ceremony was set to take place in an open, roofless stadium, even a brief shower would have been disruptive, so organizers planned a barrage of cloud seeding to wring rain out of clouds before they could reach the stadium.
